Got Sports? – Steve Wells

We had a terrific week of fun and learning. Each day we focused on how different parts of our bodies helped us to play sports and games. We did lessons  on Muscles, Bones, The Heart, Lungs and Skin. Each day we watched a video and then we had the scholars answer quiz questions, either individually  or in teams. After that portion of the day we would go outside for an activity or sport such as kick ball, relay races, balloon scavenger hunts etc. After the activity we had the scholars identify which parts of the body was used the most based on the activity. We also taught the scholars the value of basic stretching and why it is important to warm up before “THE BIG GAME.” If you would like to follow up on any of this there is a website www.kidshealth.org that provides excellent teaching opportunities. Volcano Blast! = LeeAnne Fox

We have had an amazing week of discovery, investigating everything Volcano! Not only did we seek answers about how volcanoes form, and why they erupt, but we then constructed our own mini volcanoes. We started our week by evaluating the earth’s layers, and then built on that to piece together how volcanoes form, as well as the process a volcano goes through when it erupts. We constructed paper mache volcanoes, and tested various kitchen ingredients that we could use to simulate lava in a volcanic eruption for our models. Our lava testing enabled us to determine if we wanted fast and fluffy lava, or a more slow-moving lava. Either way, it was messy and lots of fun. The end of our volcano adventure led us to a day of laughter and lots of volcanic eruptions. View photos of the class here.
