Tot Scholars was created in 2017 to welcome our very youngest children to the MFS campus. The programming set by our own Beginnings at MFS Early Childhood teachers supports the natural pace of learning for children this age. Children engage with topic-based themes at an age-appropriate pace, while also fostering relationships with peers and adults in the classroom. The Tot Scholars curriculum balances subject-based learning alongside other integral components of an early childhood education, such as dramatic play, building, music, literature, and art. Our program is designed to fuel the natural curiosity of children, supporting independent decision making, in a caring, nurturing environment. Mid-morning and mid-afternoon snacks are provided. Join us for one week (or all six!) to see what a difference MFS can make in your child’s life.

*children must be toilet-trained

Look Up! - The Science of Weather (AM)

Clouds, rain, thunder, snow, sleet, fog, wind and more. The weather around us can change our day from sunny to bleak. We will learn about different types of weather through interactive hands on experiments, crafts and literature! We may not all grow up and become meteorologists, but knowing more about weather and what influences the climate can help us better understand our planet.

Week 5: July 29 – August 2

Coding and Robotics: Symbols and Directives (AM)

Teacher: Tony Gore

Learning another language comes more easily at an early age, and given children’s innate ability to rapidly adapt to new technology, we are excited to introduce coding and robotics to our youngest scholars. The fun will begin with symbols and directives so that children will slowly grasp what steps are taken to “teach” or “program” a robot to move, an animation to play, and an application to run. This intuitive week of instruction will be interwoven with plenty of games and parallel play that connects with coding and robotic lessons. The language of computer programming is at play all around us, reshaping our world, and defining the future, let’s join in on the conversation together! We will be using dash and dot, bee boots and and Jimu. For visual coding we will work with Blocky and Scratch.

Week 6: August 5 – 9

Dramatic Play - Let’s Go Places! (AM)

Teacher: Nikole Moore-Medley

Our youngest scholars are learning about the world all around them. What better way than to go on a different journey each day. A variety of settings will be played out through food, books, dramatic play, and artistic activities. Some locations visited (virtually) may be the beach, post office, grocery store, movie theater, fire station or restaurant, as examples. One or two days may require an off-campus excursion by foot, but rest-assured they will have safe, eye-opening learning experiences that will build confidence and help them better understand the world around them.
