About Moorestown Friends School

Founded in 1785 by members of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers), Moorestown Friends School is an independent, coeducational college preparatory day school for students in Preschool through Grade 12, located in the center of historic Moorestown, New Jersey. Rooted in the Quaker principles of nonviolence, service, and respect for the individual, Moorestown Friends School is, in the words of its mission statement, “a community dedicated to educational excellence for a diverse student body, within an academically rigorous and balanced program emphasizing personal, ethical, and spiritual growth.”

ENROLLMENT: 696 students representing over 60 school districts within a 50-mile radius of campus:
Lower School enrollment: (preschool – fourth): 190

ADMISSIONS: A student’s ability to do college preparatory work is assessed through transcripts of prior work, teacher recommendations, and the Educational Records Bureau testing program. An interview with the student and family ensures compatibility with the principles and goals of Moorestown Friends School.

FINANCIAL AID: In 2018-2019, 29% of students in grades 1-12 received a total of $3,100,000 in financial assistance. The average grant was $16,300.

ACCREDITATION AND MEMBERSHIPS: Charter School, Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. Member of the National Association of Independent Schools, the Friends Council on Education, and the College Board.

FACULTY: 98 full- and part-time faculty; 45 upper school teachers, 76% of whom hold advanced degrees; 7:1 student/faculty ratio (upper school).

COLLEGE: Typically, 98-100% of Moorestown Friends School graduates matriculate at four-year colleges and universities.

SAT SCORES: The total average SAT score (Critical Reading and Math) for the Class of 2019 was 1327—the highest in South Jersey by a significant margin.

STUDENT BODY: 39% are students of color. A wide variety of religious faiths are represented as well. In keeping with the Quaker philosophy of honoring each individual, students representing different ethnic, cultural, religious and socioeconomic backgrounds are challenged daily to respect and learn from one another.

SPORTS: Varsity and Junior Varsity sports include: baseball, basketball, cross country, field hockey, fencing, golf, lacrosse, soccer, tennis and swimming. Middle School sports offered are baseball, basketball, field hockey, lacrosse, soccer and tennis.
