The Expansive Ocean – Garrett McVaugh
It has been an exciting start to our week. The children have come to camp eager to share what they know about the ocean. They have told us that “anemones protect the fish from being eaten” and that “sharks eat stuff in the sea.” We have thought about sea creatures and shells.
We have read several books about the ocean, including Wave and Swimmy. The children have made some artwork as an extension of these books. They made watercolor waves and oceans, painting crashes and crests. They used collage materials to make fish and other sea creatures, mimicking the way that Swimmy and the small fish came together to form a larger fish.
As the week progresses, we are looking forward to exploring underwater creatures more. The children have been thinking about coral reefs, and we are looking forward to examining the exciting things that live in these habitats.
